Notes

  1. Potato Types: Golden or Yukon Gold potatoes are perfect for this recipe, but feel free to experiment with Russet potatoes or sweet potatoes for different flavors and textures.
  2. Uniformity is Key: Try to cut your potatoes into similar sizes for even cooking. This ensures every piece comes out just as crispy and delicious as the next.
  3. Oil Evenly: Brushing the potatoes with olive oil not only adds flavor but also promotes an even golden crust. Make sure every nook and cranny is lightly coated.
  4. Don't Overcrowd: Giving your potatoes plenty of space in the air fryer basket is crucial for that perfect crispiness. Cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Season to Your Liking: While salt is a must, don't be shy about adding your favorite herbs and spices. Smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, curry powder, or nutritional yeast can add a lovely depth of flavor to your potatoes. Fresh herbs like rosemary, parsley, chives, or thyme sprinkled over the top after cooking can also add a fresh touch.
  6. Adjust Cooking Times: Depending on your air fryer model and the size of your potato slices, cooking times may vary. Keep an eye on them and adjust as needed.
  7. Oil-Free: For an oil-free version, skip brushing the potatoes with olive oil. Instead, you might want to invest in a non-stick air fryer basket or use air fryer parchment paper to prevent sticking. The potatoes won’t be quite as crispy but will still be delicious.
  8. Extra Crispy Potatoes: For that extra crunch, make sure your potatoes are completely dry before you start cooking. Any moisture can steam the potatoes, making them softer.
  9. Can I Make Accordion Potatoes Without an Air Fryer? Absolutely! If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake the accordion potatoes in a conventional oven. Just spread them out on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F until they’re golden and crispy. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t overcook.

Storage & Reheating Instructions

  • Cool & Airtight: Let your potatoes cool to room temperature, and then transfer them to an airtight container.
  • Reheating: To bring back that just-cooked crispiness, reheat your accordion potatoes in the air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes until they’re warm and crispy again.
  • Enjoy Within a Few Days: While these potatoes are best enjoyed fresh, storing them properly can extend their deliciousness for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
