Notes
Tofu Type Matters: Use a soft block of tofu for this recipe as it blends well and gives the right texture. If you prefer a firmer texture, extra-firm tofu can also be used.
Spice It Up: Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste. Adding a bit of cayenne pepper can give it a nice kick.
Smokiness: To amp up the smoky flavor, add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the mixture before blending it.
Pressing Tofu: Properly pressing the tofu is key. The less moisture in the tofu, the better it will hold its shape and absorb flavors.
Can I make this recipe without a food processor? While a food processor makes it easier to achieve a smooth texture, you can also mash the ingredients together in a bowl using a fork or potato masher. The texture will be more rustic but still delicious.
How do I know when the vegan spam is cooked through? It should be firm to the touch and slightly golden on the outside. Letting it cool will further help it firm up.
